  1. Well put! Reminds me of deToqueville’s observation that with all of it’s bravado about “democracy” and freedom, the scope of debate on real policy options in the US is constrained by our peculiar ideology (rather than the practice) of democracy and freedom of speech.

    In the US, we can talk about the most intimate sexual issues, but can’t openly talk about reducing our population to sustainable levels. We can talk about waging wars for national security, but not about imposing a gasoline tax to fund alternative energy sources – for national security..
